Prior to founding Leadership Impact, Pete served for seven years as CEO of United Health Services in Binghamton, NY. At UHS, he guided the growth of a dynamic and sustainable organizational culture, building organizational vitality and employee commitment. Previously as a consultant for RHR International, Pete developed a practice that included executive evaluations, organizational assessments, and leadership training. In addition to consulting, Pete has worked as VP for Human Resources at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System, as a staff member in the United States Senate, and as a hospital psychologist.
Pete is past chair of HANYS, the Healthcare Association of NY State. In 2007, he received the Distinguished Service Award from HANYS. He earned his Ph.D. in psychology from Johns Hopkins where he studied personality and intellectual attributes of high-level performance as one of the original researchers with the now-famous Hopkins study of gifted adolescents.
Pete is the author of Leading Others, Managing Yourself and a companion self-study course, Learning to Lead, for the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), intended for executives at all levels. His latest book, Partnership of Equals: Practical Strategies for Healthcare CEOs and Their Boards and the companion ACHE self-study course, Practical Board Strategies for CEOs are intended primarily for healthcare CEOs and their boards but should prove useful for all non-profit executives and board members. Pete has written articles on board leadership for Trustee magazine and on executive skills for Hospitals & Health Networks OnLine. He is a frequent speaker and facilitator for executive and board training and work sessions using a story-telling approach to involve listeners and encourage self-learning and reflection.
By being a careful listener and observer, Pete learns about organizations as they are understood from the inside. At the same time, he brings the objectivity and independence of a seasoned outsider. He helps leaders gain greater awareness of what makes them and their organizations tick -- so they can achieve more with the resources they have.
