The June 2008 Newsletter is about the new generation entering the workforce, the Millennials. It has come in under the radar screen while everyone has been focused on the Baby Boomers and the Gen-Xers, but it is very large and will change the way America works -- in many senses of that phrase.
The typical view is to dismiss the Millennials as pampered and over-protected, and therefore problematic. They can also be understood as having skills and attitudes that can propel the organization forward if understood and managed properly. What can you do with a "positive, upbeat, and optimistic generation" with a "team orientation and desire to constantly share information," fluent in the latest communication technologies? You can teach them, learn from them, and tackle the most difficult problems. It's a two-way street with great potential.
Page two provides suggestions regarding mentoring and how to avoid problems common to mentoring "programs."
